How old do you have to be to get a tattoo or piercing? If you are 18 or older with a state issued ID you can be tattooed or pierced without the requirement for parental consent. Florida State Law requires that a person must be at least 16 with a notarized parental consent form and the parent on the form must be present during the procedure.

Should I make an appointment to get my tattoo or piercing? Walk-ins are welcome but appointments do make it easier on the artists. If your design is intricate, large and requires custom drawings an appointment will allow us time to draw the design out perfectly and provide our client with a tattoo they will be exceptionally proud to wear.

Should I tip my artist and if so how much? If you think your artist has worked to his fullest ability then you should defiantly tip your artist. The only time you should not tip is if you think you got a bad tattoo. Tips can range anywhere from $5 (five) to $100 (one hundred) and is usually based on the quality of the work and the artist.

Medical

Is it safe to get a tattoo or piercing if I have a cold? No! A tattoo or piercing is an open wound or abrasion, which means your body will need to use the energy and extra white blood cells to help it heal. If you are already sick your body will be under too much stress if you get the work done wile your body is already fighting off an illness, which will keep the work from healing properly.

How can I tell if my tattoo or piercing is infected? The first sign of infection is severe redness and swelling. It is usually accompanied by greenish fluid.

What should I do if my piercing or tattoo gets infected? If you think your tattoo or piercing is infected you should first consult your artist, not a doctor. This is because body art professionals deal specifically and exclusively with tattoos and/or piercings and know the differences between a tattoo healing normally and infection. Doctors, however, often conside4r any foreign object an infection and will tell you to remove your new jewelry, for example, which will not actually succeed in removing the infection. This can lead to larger complications later. If after you have spoken with your artist and you are still not comfortable you should contact your family physician.

Can I donate blood after getting a tattoo or piercing? The traditional waiting period for donating blood after getting a tattoo or piercing is one (1) year from the date you get the work done. Some blood banks, however, will allow you to donate sooner than that assuming all of the paperwork and policy requirements are met. For more information contact your local blood bank for their specific policies and procedures.

Florida residents and those that would like to be tattooed or pierced in Florida you may check on the Florida State legislature concerning body art at  http://www.leg.state.fl.us

What are the risks associated with getting a tattoo or piercing? How long can I keep my jewelry out before it starts to close up? Body piercings can close quickly, so if you want, or need to remove your jewelry for any period of time, even half a day, you should replace with a clear retainer that will keep your piercing open and allow you to put your original jewelry back in trouble free.

Can I bring in my own jewelry for you to use? Your own jewelry is welcome as long as it is brand new and has never been in contact with anyone else's body fluids.

Is it safe to use an anti-bacterial ointment on my new tattoo instead of the A & D ointment? No, anti-bacterial ointments include withdrawing agents which are designed to pull anything that is  considered foreign by your body, which includes the tattoo pigment. Using anti-bacterial ointments will ensure that the tattoo pigment will be removed.

How do I choose an artist? You should always start by looking at the artist's portfolio. When doing this don't look for what you want, instead look at the image as a whole to check the quality of work. Once you have done this and found an artist you are interested in using you should sit down to talk with them about your design while paying attention to their attitude, professionalism,  knowledge about tattoos in general, and the piece you are interested in specifically.

How exactly is a tattoo done? First you choose the artwork you want. It is then transferred onto you skin by use of stencil paper. The actual tattoo is done in two steps: 1) The Outline and then 2) the color. When it is finished the artist will clean it up, bandage it and provide you with after care instructions. For Tight Lines Tattoo after care instructions please visit out Aftercare Instructions page.

How long will it take to get a tattoo? Setup time usually takes 15-20 minutes while the length of time it will take to finish the artwork will depend on the size of the piece and how well the client can sit for an extended period of time.

What should I wear when I'm getting a tattoo? Since your tattoo will take time and likely be a little tender when finished it is best for you to wear clothing that is comfortable to you.

Where does it hurt the least to have a tattoo? You should never place your tattoo based on where it will hurt least, instead you should get it where you want to wear it because you will wear it a lot longer.

Will my tattoo need to be touched up later? If properly taken care of your tattoo should not need extensive touchup work. If you feel it might need a touch up stop back into the shop you originally got the tattoo done at (if possible) and ask your artist what they think. More often than not the tattoo does not need touching up, though the artist might decide to polish it up a bit. At Tight Lines Tattoo all work is guaranteed and all touch up work is free.

How much will my tattoo cost? Tattoo pricing is usually based on size, placement of tattoo and approximate amount of time it will take to finish.
